February 26, 20179 yr Hi I am a new member so not to sure how to use a forum. Also a relative newcomer to the sport. I am building a chined yacht from .8 beech ply to replace my 1993 bantocqk bikin,i that through the ravages of time, has a warped hull and keel and rudder that only point in the vague direction they should. As this my first attempt I want to keep it simple and cheap using the bikini as donefor as many fifittings as poss. I wondered if anybody could give me there opinion on a couple of points. What wieght glass should I use to cover the exteriors and to I need to glass the inside or can I just lay strips down the internal seams? Gratefull for any input.
June 3, 20178 yr It's a bit late to respond but, as no one else has bothered, I'll chuck in a comment as a possible solution. My original I0M, a 'Rhythm' carrying the number 7 (yes just 7 as hull number) is a hard chine built with ply panels and one inch wide (25mm) glass tape along the inside of the joins. It has one coat of 'fluid' SP resins epoxy inside and out and is finished off, on the outside, with a two part International yacht paint. It is still 'true' and I am considering putting its patches back on to see how it measures up to the current crop of I0Ms.
