Since we sadly no longer have Keith Partington, is there anyone who can service and/or repair these winches? I now have 3 that could do with a bit of TLC and that might include new motors?

Thank you

Simon

Hi Simon.
Im also looking for someone to service Whirlwinds. I now have four with various faults. Did you get any suggestions?

I believe Rob Walsh has a collection of Whirlwinds too maybe he knows something..

If not I guess I’ll get my soldering iron out..

Hi Rob,

The straight answer is 'No' but I also made enquiries on the Model Boat Mayhem website and someone suggested https://modelradioworkshop.co.uk to see if they have any knowledge but I haven't tried that option out. Someone else suggested it might be a battery fault and to use one of those monitors which puts a load on the pack to see if you've got a duff cell. I bought a Tower Pro 4.8v - 6v voltage monitor jobbie for about £7 via eBay and it certainly works but the pack is fine. Next up was a  suggestion to check for black wire rot and also to give the pot a good spraying with contact cleaner. Also to check that the motor is getting a 3v power supply and actually works. Not tried any of this yet but I've got a big aerosol of contact cleaner so I will remove the gubbins from the case and see if I can see any obvious problems. As Mr Andrews made exceedingly good winches I am very reluctant to consign them to the scrap heap! One is actually an Atlas with the name 'Priestley' in felt tip on the side so we know where that's come from and I bet it's full of salt water corrosion but you never know!! If Rob knows anything about a Keith Partington replacement then please let me know!!

Cheers

Simon

I'm happy to look at whirlwinds as I have fixed them in the past and have a few spare parts.  I wouldn't charge but I don't provide guarantees either.  Some of the parts are well nigh unobtainable but if you have several them we should be able to cannibalise.  Message me if you want me to have a look at them.

Thanks for that John. I’m going to see if I can make some progress myself but if I end up nowhere then I’ll message you.
