Report on the A Class Open Meeting hosted by Askern Radio Sailing Club on Sunday 21st October 2018

Ten skippers arrived well on time to take part in this first A Class Event at Askern. With all entrants there, an early start was in order. Two changes of course before the start as the wind shifted 180 degrees and refused to settle. A course was set and used throughout the day comprising 10 races. All the buoys were used to create a course with a couple of beats “some where on the course”. It was a day of mixed fortunes with four skippers taking wins and it was not unusual for a boat to lose out yards from the finishing line. There was some close racing in good humour and the right spirit. A few turns and no disputes. Well done skippers. The morning started with two laps of the course but as the wind eased it was reduced to one lap. The eventual winner was David Thomas, accumulating 17 points after two discards. Sam Gill a fine second place with 23 points and David Stewart third with 27 points.
