Manor Park RSC DF95 Open Results.

The Midland DF95 Winter series finally got underway today after the postponement earlier in January with 14 Skippers taking on the challenging conditions at Manor Park RSC.
A cold South Westerly breeze started the day and with the help of Darin a course was set up and the race team ensured a smooth start at 10.00. The weather forecast was to worsen throughout the day and for once the forecast was right.
With all the skippers on A rig Steve Venables (09) got off to a good start, but Rob Radbourne (88) soon got going and a close battle commenced which would continue throughout the day ending with a single point difference between them and Steve taking the win. Simon Fairman (666) was consistent throughout the day and finished a comfortable 3rd.
As the forecast came right the skippers changed down to B rigs, Graham Whalley (16) started a push with a race win and a battle started with Clive Warren (93). Both skippers going well with the smaller rigs and taking race wins as the day went on, Clive taking 4th and Graham 5th.
Following the Lunch Break the Wind and Rain really came in and it was another change onto the C rigs with some big gusts ripping through the fleet that were more suited to a D rig. All the skippers coped well with the worsening conditions and 16 races were completed allowing for 3 discards before a unanimous decision was made to finish for the day.
An enjoyable day of DF 95 racing and a big thanks to all the skippers who made the trip and sailed exceptionally well in the challenging conditions. Thanks to the race team of Paul Kerrigan and Colin Walton on the finish line and good to see Gordon Sears helping skippers with setup.
