Does anyone have any 10 rater plans for sale, they can be early plans 70's to 80's or later , hull length up to 77" or so Maybe you know a company that can supply me If you can help if be very grateful Cheers Mark
January 25, 20179 yr Mark, a good starting point is Sails etc who have plans for Iota, Iona and Graffito 10R. Iona is a free plan and I sold an Iona recently for a customer.Its an elegant boat and not extreme in shape. Traplet have a variety of older boats available in plan form though I havent checked to see if there is a 10R amongst them. If you want to have a vintage boat then contact the Vintage Model Yacht Group and see what they might have.Good luck with your plans and above all - enjoy!

August 4Aug 4 What construction method are you planning? I have designed and built several carbon 10Rs and could probably help you avoid a few pitfalls if you're interested.
August 4Aug 4 Thanks John, I appreciate the offer and ability to lean on your experience.I plan to use a traditional strongback planked with Divinycell core material with 4 oz structural glass cloth inside and out to form a composite shell with uni-directional carbon used in high structural load areas.This is my first high-performance yacht so there will be a lot of learning and experimenting. To properly implement a light full-carbon hull I would want to create a mold and I don't want to put that level of effort in nor, for health reasons, do I want to be sanding carbon parts.Thanks again for your offer,Mike
August 4Aug 4 Well it will certainly be stiff. As a guide my hull shells come out of the mould at about 250-300gm. I aimed to make the complete hull under 500gm but I haven't managd it yet. They always seem to need more filling / painting than I want, even when made in a female mold.
August 4Aug 4 What does the "complete hull" in your builds include for those weights? Hull, transom and deck? Everything minus winch and electronics?

August 5Aug 5 The bare hull without any fittings is around 600g. The complete hull including the rudder, servos and batteries is 984g. As a comparison my complete Starkers M weighs 800g so I could still do better.Not having a minimum weight for either the 10R or the M is a very bad idea. It encourages very delicate hulls which can be damaged in a minor collision. There aren't many old 10R / M carbon boats about (Bentleys excepted) because they tend to fall apart and this reduced the number of cheap 'beginners' boats around. The IOM rules are much more sensible in this respect as having a minimum hull weight means most boats are built strong enough to last (I am currently sailing IOM No 961). However why the IOM rules don't allow carbon hulls and masts is beyond me. The latter are cheaper and stiffer.
