Emergncy contact numbers for people in your club, essential as we are an aging membership in general and in the event of an incident, contact with relatives etc is vital for their / our support.

Solution… we write our numbers down, stored on a sheet in race box for ease of access and sheet goes missing … lost!

Or… we don’t do that Steve we store it on line, and then if we need it we draw it down from online server, ok but how many people have access to that data and are they always there

One idea

We hold our own data,at club and regional events, our responsibility but no data no sail.

Stored on a small card, waterproofed in plastic wallet, stuck words facing the underside of radio.

So in an emergency, turn them over and turn their radio over!

At open meetings, show up with your £10 plus radio to show organisers your card on bottom of transmitter.

Advantages

You keep it up to data via numbers, medical information and it is private till needed.

Less data for club to hold in accessible format

Along with Afleet for our bankside scoring this has been a game changer for my admin post racing, clearly I am very happy to share the work book, and if needed can do a very quick zoom tutorial (it wont take long its that easy)

We have just been told by our bank (Santander) that our free banking will end soon. We have a ‘club treasurers’ account. We are wondering if other clubs have free banking and if so which bank? The alternative is to be a charity. Are any MYA clubs registered charities?

For Our open we decided we would run the event on the Afleet App, there is a HMS option, once you have sorted the seeding races, the app deals with all the promotions/demotions etc... for you, there is an option for either 4 or 6 up/down 

so the heat management and scoring was completed by one person, usually we would have 1 recording scores, 1 on the heat board, using Afleet allowed an extra skipper to race on the day.

If you have the app give it a try, its easier than the alternative (in my opionion)

Thought we could set up a forum space to add to the Whatsapp group to give club members a place to discuss all CMYC matters, suggest club improvements, argue about racing decisions and generally have an online chinwag. I hope that this falls under the bracket of club chat (forum admin: please let me know if this is the correct place for this topic post).

With lots of change over the past few years and finally seeming to have put a stop to the councils underhanded attempts to turn our clubhouse into yet another coffee shop, we can start to think about the clubs long term plans, with new members signing up across all age groups, encouraging increased participation in the club racing and new offerings to help engage with our community.

We have lots to celebrate: our 80 strong fleet of vintage pond yachts for public to freely use has been well used by locals; increased reliability in our 1 and 6 meter fleets are leading to more race day competitiors; the new df65 class of boats being prepared for summer sailing sessions; changes to the clubhouse setup with more accessible/organised workshop area; improved organisation of boat repair schedule and battery charging facilities; and maintenance and improved aesthetic of the external clubhouse areas.

We are currently researching the Thrustme range and possibly the Torqueedo as options and would be interested in people’s experiences. 

We currently have a small amount of ballast in the bottom, a few holes to let some water in to achieve negative buoyancy, and a child's noodle in the top

Just to give you some clues as to the points I'm interested in:

1) How do you cope with the fact that the number of 'starters' on a given day / race can vary quite a bit?

2) How do you score people who don't turn up on a given day?

My own view is that the current RYA Low Point system doesn't work very fairly when applied to this type of series, so I'd like to know if other clubs use alternative systems (e.g. High Point).

It makes me wonder how many other budding rc yachtsmen have given up after a short time and turned to another hobby, so maybe the MYA or the clubs completion secretary's might be able to come up with a proposal to help and encourage new comers like myself and I feel sure a few others with similar thoughts??????

I am keen to understand how other clubs organise themselves for club racing.

we have a membership of 29ish members currently 

we currently run an email system, whereby the secretary sends out an email to all members, requesting a response to all if the individual is joining in the Saturday club racing , clearly this generates a lot of emails, as we also sail on a weds,  we may have the opportunity to sail an evening during the summer months, which will be yet another load of emails between members. 

In short I am trying to find a system other than email where members can check in to confirm their attendance, either web based or something I can integrate into our Wordpress web site https://huntingdonryc.wordpress.com/

We do need to know who is sailing as we rotate our OOD, and the OOD is chosen by the RO from the replies

This has been a game changer for me, so I wanted to share it 

Hi, we have been using the old fashioned pencil & paper system, and as secretary have suffered, soggy, ripped, illegible score sheets at the end of a days racing, 

A fellow regional club member gave me the heads up on Afleet, this is an Android app which costs £3.89, developed by a radio sailor down under.

It is simple to use, and will provide instant results which are ready to email etc.. after the last boat finishes. 

We employ a RO system on days when we have more that 8 sailors (every weekend now) the app will also calculate average scores for this.

This app saves me 1.5 hours after racing (calculating average scores, inputting to HMS, 12 competitors x 12 races = 144 entries into HMS) 

plus the whole fleet are now comfortable with it after a couple of weekends use.

Plus for larger clubs where you need to deploy heats due to numbers on the water, the App will also run a heat management system 

Its marvellous i cant praise it enough
