This race was held at Brechin Castle Centre Model Boat on Sat 30th July 2005 . An excellent days racing was enjoyed by the thirteen yachts entered as they had a moderate North Easterly blowing right down the Loch with gusts up to top of A rig. Boyd Baird the race officer was able to set a course that remained true throughout the day. Boyd was assisted by Ian Hotson and Albert Ireland (both members of tyhe Brechin club).
The Fastnet competition is a series of long distance (endurance) races, each race lasting 30 minutes and the winner being the boat with the most laps completed . All classes of radio controlled yachts can enter, with handicaps being applied as appropriate. Entry to the 2005 event comprised eleven IOM's and two R6Ms. Five races were completed with the winner finishing a total of 61 laps of the course
The fun of the Fastnet is that you don't have to be first over the line, you only have to complete the same number of laps as the leading boat, this makes for less hassle on the water and therefore the sailing is more relaxed and enjoyable.
Ali Law the undisputed winner was in excellent form never missing a start and leading the fleet in every race but often being pushed by Colin, Ralph and David . Ali as the 2005 winner received the new Scottish Fastnet Trophy (presented by the Brechin club) and this will now be raced for in future years. David Smith won the America Cup Trophy outright as the first IOM from the West.
