| Dear Sailing Addicts,
We have had a good start to the season so far.
There was a great turn out of R6m Yachts - 10 in all - for the Icebreaker event a month ago on 20th February and a highly enjoyable event ensued.
The first round of the 2005 Club Championship for IOM Yachts took place on 6th March with a creditable turnout; again a good day's sailing.
Yesterday we had the first round of the 2005 Club Championship for R6m Yachts and after a drifting start in very light wind the breeze picked up to give some good sailing in 13 heats. (I was pleased to pick up several 2nd places but overall came 3rd).
I want to draw your attention to the Club and Open Events taking place in April - please mark these in your diaries; personal organisers; (even paint them on the sides of your boats so that you remember!)
April starts with the second round of the Club Championship for IOM Yachts on Sunday 3rd April.
Activity then moves to Greenock on Sunday 10th April or the first Open Event of the season for R6m Yachts - the Scott's of Greenock Trophy. If we managed to get 10 boats out in the February cold for the Icebreaker surely we can do even better on a warm spring day in April; all R6m owners should want to get out and compete.
Back to Paisley on Sunday 17th April for the second round of the Club Championship for R6m Yachts.
Finally we have the first event of the Scottish Travellers Series for IOM Yachts on Saturday 23rd April at Aberdeen - don't jump the gun and turn up at Paisley; we are hosting the second event on 14th May. The North East Clubs (Peterhead, Aberdeen & Brechin) make a great job of supporting the events organised in the West (Paisley & Greenock) so we should return the compliment (and try to beat them on their own waters!)
Anyone free on a Wednesday afternoon is welcome to turn up for some sailing - a hard core group including John Mathieson, Hugh Shields and others are regularly found on the water.
Wednesday 20th April should see the hard core group sidelined by the Annual Departmental Challenge for Strathclyde 70 yachts designed and built by groups of students from the Department of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde. At least seven and possibly as many as twelve yachts should be out on the water for this event. (Note that this is separate from the Schools Yacht Modeller Competition organised by the same Department which usually climaxes in June.)
Good Sailing to you all and please support your club and open events.
Regards,
David
